ICSIICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) may be used as a means of facilitating fertilization. A single sperm is injected by a skilled embryologist into the cytoplasm of the egg. These injected eggs are then placed inside the nutrient media and are incubated overnight. In the morning fertilization is assessed. ICSI is required if the male has a very low sperm number; problems with sperm morphology or motility; if there is a high titre of antisperm antibodies; when previous IVF fertilization failure with conventional insemination has occurred or to optimize egg fertilization rates when low number of oocytes have been obtained.
