Age FactorA very important factor that affects female fertility is the age of the female partner. The fertility of a women starts to decline at age 33-35. Once a woman reaches age 40, there is a more rapid decline in fertility. The risk of miscarriage increases with age as well. The decline in fertility is related to a deterioration of the quality of eggs. Because of this issue, women who are older should resort to more aggressive, early fertility treatment. In women with compromised ovarian function the treatment outcome of clomiphene citrate, intrauterine insemination and in-vitro fertilization are less successful.
