Male Factor Fertility

Causes of Male Infertility

In Canada, one in six couples experience infertility, with male factors contributing to 30% of cases. Lifestyle changes, medical therapies and fertility treatments can effectively address male factor infertility, helping couples conceive. At Regional Fertility Clinic (RFP), we can help identify the causes of male infertility and develop a personalized treatment plan based on our findings. The most common cause of male infertility is issues with semen health. The concentration (amount), motility (movement) and morphology (shape) of sperm cells can affect their ability to successfully reach and fertilize the egg.

Male Infertility Symptoms

Many men are unaware of their infertility until they experience difficulty in trying to conceive. Infertility is defined as engaging in regular, unprotected sex for a year without achieving pregnancy if under the age of 35, or for six months if over the age of 35. Other symptoms of male infertility may include:

  • Low sex drive
  • Pain or swelling in the testicles
  • Sexual dysfunction (erection or ejaculation issues)
  • Reduced body hair
