Donor Sperm
Donor sperm can be obtained from a sperm bank or a known donor. Treatment with donor sperm insemination is commonly indicated for:
- Infertility related to severe issues with sperm
- Single individuals or couples desiring conception who do not have sperm, donor sperm can be obtained from a sperm bank or a known donor.
Intrauterine insemination (IUI) involves thawing the donor sperm and placing it high in the uterus (around the time of ovulation. The procedure is performed by our nurses and is typically quick and minimally uncomfortable. Donor sperm may also be used in other fertility treatments, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Donor Egg Program
There are many circumstances in which donor eggs may be required for conception, often due to the inability to conceive using one’s own eggs. Donor eggs can be obtained from an egg bank or a known egg donor. At RFP, our fertility specialists will help determine whether egg donation is the right treatment option for you and guide you through the entire process. Our goal is to support your family-building journey in a way that aligns with your unique needs and goals.
Surrogacy
Surrogacy is an arrangement in which an individual carries and delivers a baby on behalf of another individual or couple. There are two main types of surrogacy: traditional and gestational.
- Traditional surrogacy involves the surrogate using their own egg to establish and carry the pregnancy. The Regional Fertility Program (RFP) does not offer traditional surrogacy.
- Gestational surrogacy involves creating an embryo using the egg and sperm of the intended parents or donors. The surrogate has no genetic connection to the baby. This is the form of surrogacy offered by RFP when:
- The intended parent(s) do not have a uterus or have a uterus that cannot sustain a pregnancy.
- Pregnancy would pose significant health risks to the intended parent due to medical conditions.
